The Wastewater Division maintains the Treatment and Collection components of the Evans and Hill-N-Park sanitary sewer systems. Together the systems collect the sanitary waste from all homes and businesses in Evans and Hill-N-Park service areas. These systems contain more than 75 miles of sanitary sewers and one sewage pumping station at the Evans Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Both the Evans and Hill-N-Park Treatment Plants are aerated lagoon treatment plants. The process of treatment is achieved through aeration and natural biological activities. The sewage contents are converted to inert particles that can be stored in the lagoons by settling. The treated plant effluent is then disinfected by liquid sodium hypochlorite (bleach) before being discharged to the South Platte River.
