In front of a crowd of nearly 100 residents, business owners, and stakeholders, newly appointed City of Evans Mayor Mark Clark hosted the 2022 State of the City address on October 13th, 2022 at the Riverside Library in Evans.
"I think this is a great event. It actually brings out the community. It brings out business leaders, economic developers, and they can just kind of get a feel for our city and where we're at and what direction we're heading," Clark said following the event. "This is a great opportunity to showcase our city and all the great things we have going on."
Clark was appointed the Mayor of Evans in April of 2022 after former Mayor Brian Rudy’s term expired. In his new role as the City’s Mayor, Clark outlined his vision for the community and welcomed department leaders from Economic Development, Engineering, Police, and Community Development to share the exciting new plans and accomplishments happening in the city.
"We talked about our budget and how well we utilize it and spend our money. We talked about the exciting development that we have going on such as Quicktrip, the awesome developments along the 85 corridor as well as the new housing projects that we have in development. And of course, it goes without saying that we care about our Police Department. We care about our citizens as we're looking forward to building a new police station."
Since 2019, the City of Evans has witnessed substantial improvement in infrastructure and community growth. The city passed a 1% sales tax for street maintenance and repair in 2019, and since that time, more than 40 infrastructure projects have been completed, in progress, or in design. The city’s Master Plan has paved the way for future housing developments and economic vitality, and our Police Department is poised to construct its own state-of-the-art Law Enforcement complex in the near future.
“No doubt, we’re embracing growth and the excitement that comes with it,” Clark said. “We have great leadership in place and we’re moving forward every day, looking to keep Evans a vibrant, diverse, and dynamic place to live.”
The City of Evans held its inaugural State of the City address in 2019 as part of the city’s 150-year anniversary. Since that time, the gathering has become a signature event that facilitates connections between city leaders, business owners, residents, and community stakeholders.
“The State of the City address is a great reflection of our residents’ interest in their community,” Evans Communications Manager Lance Snow said. “We hear so many great ideas from them and they’re always interested in bettering their community. This event lets them see the progress and hear from the leaders they’ve elected.”
The event is free and open to the public and no RSVP is needed. Breakfast and coffee will be provided free of charge.
