Water Line Inventory

The City of Evans is creating an inventory of all public and private water pipes to maintain the health and safety of our water system.  We need your help to identify whether the pipe delivering drinking water into your home is plastic, copper, galvanized steel, or lead. The Evans Public Works & Utilities Department is committed to identifying and inventorying all service line material to ensure public safety.

We are requesting your help to ensure Evans has the most accurate information about the pipe materials utilized in the construction of your property. Every water system in the United States was required to provide a initial pipe inventory to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in 2024, as required under the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). The City made substantial progress as part of that efforts but have a number of service lines of unknown material still awaiting identification.

To accomplish this important task, the City of Evans has hired an engineering consulting firm, AE2S, to help us complete the inventory. We need property owners like yourself to locate the water service line that delivers water to your home or business and complete a short online survey.

The correct pipe is typically located on the lowest floor of the property, often in a utility room. The pipe will come up through the floor or through the wall and your water shutoff valve will be attached to it. To prepare for determining your pipe materials and filling out the survey, we recommend gathering the following items:

1.         Your account number (found on your water bill, or call 970-475-1170)
2.         Key OR coin to gently scratch the pipe
3.         Magnet to see if the pipe is magnetic
4.         Smart Phone OR Tablet

The survey will walk you through each of the steps to identify your pipe material. You will be asked to upload a photo of your pipe. To access the survey, visit this page. The survey should take less than 10 minutes to complete.

If you have questions, please call (970) 852-0506 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, and someone from AE2S will help walk you through the survey.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this important request. Scan the QR code below if you are viewing this page on a PC but wish to complete the survey using your smartphone or tablet.
