42nd Street eastbound lanes will open, westbound lanes will close on Oct. 20

The reconstruction of the eastbound lanes of 42nd Street/Prairie View Drive will be completed by the end of this week, Oct. 17 or 18. 

Beginning on the morning of Monday, Oct. 20, both westbound lanes of 42nd Street/Prairie View Drive will be closed from east of 23rd Avenue to 35th Avenue while crews put the finishing touches - applying the top 2" layer of asphalt, repair some segments of concrete, and apply final lane striping - on this roadway reconstruction project. At the same time, the eastbound lanes will be opened to thru traffic. 

The westbound lanes of 42nd Street/Prairie View Drive will not be accessible from 23rd Avenue, 29th Avenue, Harbor Lane, or Eagles Nest Drive. Access to The Ridge at Prairie View neighborhood will only be available via eastbound 42nd Street at Harbor Lane and Blue Bells Drive. Cave Creek access will be available likewise only on eastbound 42nd Street/Prairie View Drive at Cedar Lane. Motorists exiting Cave Creek and The Ridge at Prairie View neighborhoods who want to travel west will need to detour east down 42nd Street/Prairie View Drive to 17th Avenue and travel north to 37th Street and then turn westbound. Access to and from Cave Creek will be available at 35th Avenue via Sagebrush Boulevard. Access to 42nd Street/Prairie View Drive from the east will be available at 17th Avenue and Carson Avenue. 

We understand the closure of this major east-west thoroughfare has been a hassle for members of the community, we ask that you please be patient as we put the finishing touches on this major upgrade to the Evans' street network. 

Barring any unforeseen setbacks, work on the westbound lanes to complete the project is expected to last until Nov. 7, at which point all four lanes in both directions will be fully opened.
