49th Street Closure Update

In April, a culvert that conveys water from the Evans Ditch under 49th Street in the vicinity of 35th Avenue suffered a catastrophic failure. While the City initially thought a temporary solution rerouting the ditch would be possible, deeper analysis by the City’s Public Works & Utilities Department identified multiple critical utility conflicts and engineering constraints in the vicinity, significantly limiting repair options. It was determined that for the needed repairs to be made, the ditch itself must be free of water. Given the large number of residences, businesses, and agricultural land that rely on the water supplied by the ditch, halting the water supply was deemed unfeasible. Therefore, the culvert replacement has been scheduled for the end of irrigation season, in early fall. At that time, repairs will be made to both the ditch system and roadway. Until that work is completed, the closure on 49th Street will remain in place. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
