Records Requests

According to the Colorado Open Records Act (CORA), the public has the right to request most City records.  Any request that requires staff time, or the creation of a new request, must be initiated by submitting a City of Evans Records Request Form.

Once a form is submitted, the City will issue an invoice for the estimated time and cost of the request.  All records requests must adhere to the timeline under the Colorado Open Records Act, which allows three (3) working days for a records search and an extension of seven (7) working days if the request is substantially large.  The City also reserves the right to request a deposit in advance for larger requests. Completed Records Request Forms can be emailed to the City Clerk at cityclerk@evanscolorado.gov

Additional Information

The City of Evans has adopted the Colorado Municipal Records Retention Schedule, joining 11 other Weld County municipalities in a cooperative venture that developed and now provides a comprehensive records retention schedule for records typically kept by any small but growing Colorado municipality. The schedule is designed in a way to expand over time as the municipality grows and more specialized records are retained by the then larger municipality. Below is a link to the most recent Records Retention Schedule that is currently used by the City of Evans. Individuals requesting release of records are encouraged to peruse the schedule to determine if the records of interest are able to be provided.
