City of Evans Announces Speed Camera Locations for AVIS Program
The City of Evans is providing 30 days advance notice of the locations designated for its Automated Vehicle Identification System (AVIS) speed enforcement program. The program is designed to reduce speeding, improve roadway safety and encourage compliance with posted speed limits.
The program will include one fixed camera location and four designated corridors where mobile speed cameras may be deployed.
Fixed Camera Location:
-
37th Street and Palermo Avenue
Mobile Camera Corridors:
-
37th Street: 65th Avenue to Highway 85
-
42nd Street/Prairie View Drive: 35th Avenue to Highway 85
-
35th Avenue: North city limits to 49th Street
-
11th Avenue: Highway 34 to 37th Street
Implementation and Warning Period
Following the required 30-day advance notice period, the City will begin deploying speed cameras at the designated locations.
For the first 35 days of camera operation, drivers detected exceeding posted speed limits may receive warning notices rather than citations and corresponding fines. This initial period is intended to increase awareness of the program and encourage drivers to adjust their speeds before monetary penalties begin.
After the 35-day warning period concludes, the City will begin issuing citations with fines for qualifying speeding violations.
The AVIS program is part of the City's ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety for motorists, pedestrians and residents throughout Evans. Drivers are encouraged to remain attentive to posted speed limits and exercise caution on all city roadways.
