City of Evans Declares Drought Emergency; Expanded Watering Restrictions Now in Effect
At the April 21 meeting, the Evans City Council unanimously approved a drought emergency declaration and an emergency ordinance to expand outdoor watering restrictions for the 2026 irrigation season.
Effective immediately, outdoor watering is prohibited between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., an expansion from the previous noon to 5:00 p.m. restriction. These measures are in place to reduce water loss due to evaporation and ensure responsible use of the community’s water resources during dry conditions.
The City of Evans’ seasonal outdoor watering policies remain in effect April 15 through October 15, with watering allowed only on designated days outside restricted hours:
- Even-numbered addresses: Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday
- Odd-numbered addresses: Monday, Wednesday, Saturday
- Multi-family residences/apartments: Sunday, Tuesday, Friday
Watering during the heat of the day significantly reduces efficiency, as much of the water is lost to evaporation before it can benefit lawns and landscaping.
Residents are encouraged to follow the updated schedule and take advantage of early morning or evening watering times to maximize effectiveness and conserve water.
