City of Evans Seeking Applicants to Fill Ward 1 City Council Vacancy

The City of Evans is currently accepting applications from qualified residents interested in serving on the Evans City Council as the Ward 1 representative.

The City Council will appoint an individual to fill a vacancy in Ward 1. The person selected will serve until after the November 3, 2026, municipal election, at which time voters will elect candidates to fill both Ward 1 council seats.

The appointed council member will have the opportunity to run in the November 2026 election. Due to the current vacancy and the expiration of the term held by the other Ward 1 representative, both Ward 1 seats will appear on the ballot this fall. One seat will be elected to a two-year term to complete the remainder of the vacated term, while the second seat will be elected to a full four-year term as part of the regular election cycle.

The Evans City Council typically meets at 7:00 p.m. on the first and third Tuesdays of each month, often times council work sessions directly precede the regular meetings with start times ranging from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. depending on how much business is necessary. Council members are responsible for representing the interests of their constituents, establishing city policies, approving budgets, and helping guide the future direction of the community.

To be eligible for appointment, applicants must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States.
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a qualified elector of the City of Evans.
  • Have resided within Ward 1 for at least 30 days immediately preceding the appointment.
  • Not hold any other elective public office.

All interested candidates must submit a completed application to the City Clerk's Office no later than 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026.
