Evans City Council to Review 2027 Budget Overview

The Evans City Council will continue its review of the proposed 2027 City Budget during its work session on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6:00 p.m.

The work session will provide Council with a high-level overview of the proposed 2027 operating and capital budget as City staff works to finalize its recommendations ahead of formal budget consideration. This will be the fifth work session dedicated to the development of the 2027 budget.

During previous work sessions, Council has reviewed revenue assumptions, personnel costs and the results of the City’s compensation and classification study, projected supplies and services costs, capital project priorities, and enterprise fund operations and rates. Tuesday’s presentation will provide updates to those components and summarize the proposed budget citywide, with a particular focus on the General Fund.

Proposed Budget at a Glance

The proposed 2027 General Fund includes a balanced operational budget, with projected revenues exceeding operating expenses by approximately $641,000. Citywide, the proposed budget anticipates approximately $62.2 million in revenue and $66.5 million in expenses, with projected year-end fund balances totaling approximately $74.9 million.

The difference between citywide revenues and expenses includes planned use of existing fund balances for capital projects, deferred infrastructure maintenance and other improvements. Proposed investments include street pavement and reconstruction, streetlights, street widening, engineering design, equipment replacement, non-potable water system improvements, drainage and water planning and infrastructure, and continued expansion of the wastewater treatment plant.

Tuesday’s discussion will give City Council an opportunity to ask questions, provide feedback and review final changes as the proposed 2027 budget moves toward consideration for adoption.
