Current and Upcoming Projects

The City of Evans is committed to transparency, accountability, and the responsible use of taxpayer resources.

This page provides regularly updated information on current and upcoming capital improvement projects throughout the city. Projects are featured at various stages of development, from initial planning and design to active construction.

Each project section includes an overview of the work, the approved budget and funding sources, and regular status updates to keep residents informed of progress.

Our goal is to provide residents with a clear understanding of how public funds are being invested to maintain and improve our community's infrastructure.

Project Overview

In order to accommodate increased demand from development at and around the Evans Junction commercial development site located at the southwest corner of 31st Street and Highway 85, this project will replace the existing 8-inch clay sanitary sewer line that runs along State Street between 31st and 37th Streets with an upgraded 12-inch PVC line.

Funding

This project will be funded via the city Wastewater Enterprise Fund. Professional Engineering Consultants was contracted in April 2026 to provide engineering design services for this contract. $2,000,000 has been budgeted for Fiscal Year 2027 for the construction of the upgraded sanitary sewer line.

Project Status

This project is currently in the design phase with the City of Evans Engineering Department expected to receive the final 100% engineering design submittal by the end of 2026. Once final design is complete, the city will transition to the construction bidding process. Construction work is expected to begin in early to mid 2027.

Project Overview

The City of Evans is in the process of adding street lighting to improve the safety and visibility along the recently expanded section of 37th Street between the 47th Avenue roundabout and 35th Avenue. Additionally, street lighting will also be added to 47th Avenue from the roundabout north to the city limits at approximately the 3200 block of 47th Avenue. The City is currently under contract with Kimley-Horn for the engineering design and has instructed the firm to incorporate cobra head streetlights into the design as these fixtures provide greater light output and coverage while also offering lower installation and long-term maintenance costs compared to more decorative styles.

Funding

$1,500,000 has been budgeted for this project from the Road Tax Fund.

Current Status

The Evans Engineering Department has received the 60% design submittal from Kimley Horn and those plans are currently under review. The City is also working with Xcel Energy who will be responsible for installing the street lights once final design is complete and the components have been delivered.

The City of Evans’ in-house Sign Shop is actively working to improve signage throughout the community, helping make streets safer, easier to navigate, and more visually consistent across the city.

The Sign Shop plays an important role in maintaining Evans’ transportation infrastructure. Signs are produced locally by the City’s Sign Technician and installed in the field with the assistance of Public Works Technicians. When older or damaged signs are removed, materials are responsibly recycled whenever possible.

As of March 2026, crews are currently replacing and installing new street signs, stop signs, speed limit signs, and other roadway signage along 37th Street, beginning at 65th Avenue and moving west to east toward 1st Avenue.

Once work on 37th Street is finished, crews will move on to 42nd Street, followed by additional north–south arterial roadways throughout the city. The project prioritizes Evans’ busiest roadways first before progressing to collector streets and neighborhood roads.

Maintaining an in-house Sign Shop represents a smart and responsible use of taxpayer dollars. Producing signage internally allows the city to fabricate signs faster, ensure they meet exact specifications, and complete the work at a lower cost than contracting the service externally.

New signage across Evans also provides several important benefits for the community, including, improved roadway safety for drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians, easier navigation throughout the city, compliance with required MUTCD retroreflectivity standards that ensure signs remain visible at night, a cleaner, more uniform appearance across city streets and consistent branding that strengthens Evans’ identity.

This ongoing effort represents another example of proactive infrastructure maintenance and thoughtful investment that helps keep Evans moving forward.
